  • The Top 10 Places with the Best Sushi in Düsseldorf

Japanese culture is known to be so important to Düsseldorf that we have our own Japan Day and our “Japanische Viertel”, the Japanese area of the city most commonly known as Little Tokyo on the Rhein.

A Japanese quarter is easily spotted by its myriad of sushi restaurants, usually one next to another. This leads us to a very important question: who serves the best sushi in Düsseldorf?

We had to give it a go and bring our contribution to the table. Our amazing expat community helped us pick the best sushi in Düsseldorf by voting for their favorite ones on our Life in Düsseldorf Facebook community. Whether you’re eating in or ordering food for delivery, sushi is always a GREAT option!

Who serves the best sushi in Düsseldorf?

If you are looking for inspiration where to have your next Sushi-night, here is our list of the top 10 best sushi in Düsseldorf:

Sumi.

Sumi. differentiates itself in its location by being in a “cool-restaurants” area in Pempelfort rather than in the Japanese quarter. The restaurant’s setup is not a classical Japanese one, yet classy and cozy. The level of service and friendliness of the staff makes it, together with the heavenly sushi they offer, one of the MUST-TRY places on this list. Since the restaurant is rather small, a reservation is always a good idea.

Kyodaina

Kyodaina brings sushi and poké bowls to Loretto Straße, making the hip area an even better place to hang out. This family-run business crushes the presupposed idea that the most authentic sushi must come from the Japanese area of Düsseldorf. They have various customisable set meals to choose from, therefore making it easy to sample different sushis at a popular price. Their dragon rolls, beautifully served with a fiery sauce is most probably their most distinctive item on the menu.

Yabase

Yabase is lively and always crowded, to taste their dinner menu you should make a reservation, or for lunch just make sure you arrive early to get a table. The queue is definitely there because people know Yabase serves the most authentic sushi experience in the city. Prices are on the higher side, but the portion sizes and taste will likely exceed your expectations.

Kushitei of Tokyo

Kushitei of Tokyo is a great place to have an after-work sushi party. It has this informal Japanese vibe that will allow you to perfectly unwind around some delicious sushi and have a few drinks with your colleagues and friends. We all have at least one friend who does not like sushi, they should also join for their grilled skewers which are equally delicious.

BABA

Baba serves a big variety of high-quality sushi which is very authentic and appetizing. They offer a diverse menu with fusion-inspired dishes and modern-Asian cuisine.

Google

Maruyasu

Maruyasu has several locations around the city, therefore, making it easy to get your sushi fix without having to go too far. They have a large variety of sushi on offer, priced reasonably and always freshly prepared. Except for their branches in Schadow Arkaden, most of their locations are rather for customers on-the-go than those who want a proper restaurant dining experience.

QOMO Restaurant & Bar

Although it is more of an Asian fusion restaurant, QOMO’s menu features an extensive offer of sushi. The restaurant literally takes your breath away, both with the food and by offering the best view in the city. One can understand how important Japanese food is to Düsseldorf when you can have Sushi at the top of the biggest landmark in the city. QOMO is located at the top level of the Rheinturm and is the place to be if you want to combine sushi night and date night.

Naniwa Sushi & More

There are 2 Naniwa restaurants in Düsseldorf, they are so serious about sushi that one of these restaurants is specialized in just sushi. Their sushi is authentic, distinctive in flavor, and moderately priced. It is a usually rare combination. They are not always as crowded as the other places on this list, plus they have high chairs for kids, making it a good spot to try with kids.

Nagaya

This list would have been incomplete without Nagaya, a Japanese restaurant with a Michelin starred chef right here in our beautiful city. The excellent sushi prepared by Chef Nagaya is served in a luxurious setting. The Michelin star in the case of Nagaya, is totally well-deserved.

Kamikaze am Wehrhahn

We didn’t forget to add Kamikaze to this list – after all, it is one of the top-rated sushi spots in Düsseldorf on Google. They serve up a huge array of sushi platters, all made with delicious and fresh ingredients.

👋 Hey, I’m Jenna!

The voice behind Life in Düsseldorf

I’m a German Canadian who moved to Düsseldorf over a decade ago, and like many of you, I had a million questions when I arrived. From trying to figure out how health insurance works in Germany to wondering where the best bakery is (spoiler: it’s Bülle 🍞), I’ve been through it all.

So I created Life in Düsseldorf to help make your transition smoother — whether you’re moving to Germany, already living here, or just curious about life abroad. My mission? To make you feel a little less overwhelmed and a lot more at home.
